AI Authoring Assistant for Interactive Case Simulations

AI Authoring Assistant for Interactive Case Simulations | LiveCase blog

You have teaching materials and an idea for an interactive case. The authoring work is to connect those materials to a scenario, learner decisions, and assessment criteria.

LiveCase's AI Authoring Assistant can help draft and revise the case. The instructor checks the content and learning design.

What Is the AI Authoring Assistant?

The AI Authoring Assistant supports drafting a simulation from teaching materials or a topic brief. Use it to develop:

Characters and dialogue
Scenario developments and branching paths
Questions aligned to your learning objectives
Assessment criteria and feedback suggestions

Review and edit the generated material. Use source content you have permission to adapt and check applicable terms before publication.

How it works: from brief to reviewed draft

The process is three steps, and none of them require a technical background.

Step 1: Prepare your brief. Describe the learning objective, audience, source material, learner roles, and decisions you want students to practice.

Step 2: Generate a draft. Inspect the scenario, dialogue, branching paths, and questions. Check that the content represents your sources accurately.

Step 3: Review and preview. Refine the wording and assessment criteria, test the learner experience, and correct any gaps before delivery.

Why It Works: The Design Philosophy

AI assistance is useful when it helps an instructor produce a draft they can inspect and improve.

The assistant can support authoring while the educator remains responsible for the facts and pedagogical decisions.

Keep three principles in mind:

A clear brief. Define the intended audience and learning objective before generating content.

Reviewable output. Inspect the case logic and source facts. AI assistance does not guarantee instructional quality.

Planned delivery. Confirm learner access and publishing terms before release. LiveCase supports Canvas LTI, Blackboard LTI, and partner LTI.

Three uses for the assistant

Use the authoring workflow to support:

Interactive practice. Add questions, authored branching paths, and character conversations where they serve the objective.

Evidence of reasoning. Ask learners to explain a decision and discuss alternatives. The activity does not make AI use impossible or automatically flag suspicious behavior.

Assessment preparation. Configure AI grading for written answers and character conversations, test representative responses, and review the resulting feedback.

The Three Authoring Pathways

The AI Authoring Assistant is one of three ways to build on LiveCase, and it's the one we recommend most people start with.

Pathway 1: Start From Scratch. Complete control over every detail. You build the characters, write the branches, and set the scoring manually. Best for people who already know exactly what they want and have the time to build it.

Pathway 2: Co-Create with AI. Describe the case, generate a draft, and refine it with your subject knowledge.

Pathway 3: Studio Services. The white-glove option. LiveCase's professional design team builds the entire simulation for you. Ideal for corporate teams with tight deadlines or professors who want a production-quality experience without touching the tools.

Discuss wider publication options and requirements with LiveCase after reviewing and testing your case. Distributor acceptance and income are not guaranteed.

Start with a short case

Choose one learning objective and prepare a brief. Allow time to review the draft and preview the experience.

FAQ

What is the LiveCase AI Authoring Assistant?

It provides AI assistance for drafting and revising interactive cases from teaching materials or a topic brief. The author checks the resulting content and learning design.

Do I need coding experience to use the AI Authoring Assistant?

No. The tool is built for educators, professors, and corporate trainers with zero technical background. If you can upload a file and click edit, you can use it.

Who owns the content I create with the AI Authoring Assistant?

Review LiveCase's applicable terms and the rights in your source material before publication. AI assistance does not grant permission to adapt someone else's content.

How long does it take to generate a simulation?

Time depends on the source material, complexity, and review needed. Treat generated material as a draft to inspect and test.

Can I publish simulations created with the AI Authoring Assistant?

Discuss the available publishing routes and requirements with LiveCase. For LMS delivery, the supported integrations are Canvas LTI, Blackboard LTI, and partner LTI.

What types of materials can I use as input?

Begin with teaching materials or a topic brief that clearly states the learning objective. Check the authoring workflow's supported upload formats and review the generated interpretation.
